The Rochester-based baroque ensemble Publick Musick will open the 2016 Rochester Early Music Festival with a concert of exquisite music for soprano, bass, strings, and organ, by 17th-century German composer Matthias Weckmann and his circle. Rochester favorite Laura Heimes (soprano) and Mischa Bouvier (baritone) will perform the searingly beautiful cantata "Wie liegt die Stadt so wüst," written by Weckmann in 1663, after a devastating outbreak of the plague.
