Book Discussion Group Thursday, July 18, 7:00-9:00 PM
Penfield Librarian Kim Catalanello hosts the monthly Book Discussion Group meeting. This month's selection is The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson, led by Robyn Miller. Copies of the book will be available at the circulation desk beginning June 20. No registration required.
Civil War Ballooning Thursday, July 25, 7:00-8:00 PM
For Ages 8-Adult. Did you know that America’s first “Air Force” was a fleet of balloons during the Civil War and “aeronauts” such as Professor Thaddeus Lowe were responsible for manning the contraptions? Learn all about the Civil War Balloon Corps presented by educator Chris Lynn of the Genesee Country Village & Museum. Registration opens Thursday, July 11.

Cris Johnson’s Magic Workshop Wednesday, July 17, 7:00-8:00 PM
For Those Entering Grades 6-12. A professional magician will share his secrets. Cris will perform a brief show, talk about the ancient art of magic, and then provide instructions and supplies so participants can learn a half dozen tricks. Space is limited; registration opens Wednesday, June 26.
Mehndi with Meena & DIY Light-Up Zodiac Signs Wednesday, July 24, 7:00-8:30 PM

Fandom Trivia Night Wednesday, July 31, 7:00-8:00 PM
For Those Entering Grades 6-12. Compete with a team to answer trivia questions on books, movies, and other forms of pop culture! We’ll be polling teens and tweens in the weeks leading up to this event to see which fandoms we should draw questions from. We’ll have lots of treats and prizes, too. Mental Health Awareness Teen Book Club Tuesdays, July 9, July 23, & August 6, 3:00-4:00 PM
For Ages 14-18. Characters living with mental illness is the theme of this summer’s book group. Led by Young Adult (YA) Librarian Lyla Grills and YA aide and psychology graduate student Amber Spencer, we will discuss novels and the different mental illnesses highlighted in each. Before the July 9 meeting, please read "Turtles All the Way Down" by John Green. Registration opens Tuesday, June 25.

Summer Stories ‘N’ More Story Times Tuesdays, June 25-August 6, 10:30 – 11:00 AM
For children ages 3-6. Preschoolers are invited to enjoy stories, songs, and finger plays presented by our children’s librarian. Parents/caregivers are welcome, but not required to attend. Older siblings are also welcome. No registration required.
Summer Family Story Times Mondays, July 1-August 5, 10:30 – 11:00 AM
For children of all ages, with an adult. Families are invited to enjoy stories, songs, and finger plays presented by our children’s librarian. This program is geared for toddler and pre-school children not yet comfortable leaving their parent/caregiver. No registration required.
Tiny Explorers* Friday, July 19, 11:00-11:45 AM
For ages 12-23 months, with an adult. Come let your little ones discover and play as they learn to socialize with other children. No registration required.
BLAST OFF with Crafty Fun Days Friday, July 12, 3:30-4:30 PM
For Children Entering Grades 1-4. Come enjoy a story and make a theme-related craft. Separate registration is required for each program date. Registration begins Friday, June 28 for Penfield town or school district residents and Friday, July 5 for all others.
BLAST OFF with Wild Wings* Friday, July 5, 11:00 AM-Noon
For ages 5+, with an adult Learn about birds of prey at this incredible presentation by our friends at Wild Wings. They will bring along owls, falcons, and hawks, oh my! This fascinating program will include a flight demonstration as well as time for questions. For children of all ages, with an adult. We are delighted to welcome back these special Penfield Public Works Department trucks. We’ll meet in the parking lot to learn, explore, and climb on these super-sized construction vehicles, light rain or shine. BLAST OFF with Mad Science Class* Friday, July 19, 3:30-4:30 PM
For ages 5+; parents welcome. Reach for the moon and probe the wonders of space as Mad Science of WNY takes children on a voyage of discovery. Come face-to-face with the stars, planets, comets, and more. Grab your astronaut suits; it’s time to journey into space. We’ll travel 239,800 miles above Earth as we commemorate the 50th anniversary of man landing on the moon. BLAST OFF with Omnipresent Puppet Theater* Presenting “Cosmic Joe and the Star Pirates” Thursday, July 25, 3:30-4:15 PM
For children of all ages & their families Young Joe is an astronomy buff who discovers a rare and unusual comet, but when it crashes in his yard, there is a magical creature living in it. Joe must then protect it when intergalactic pirates come looking for the treasures the comet contains. An exciting adventure in Omnipresent’s fast-paced comic style.
