Middle Eastern Dance Demonstration

Seniors Safe at Home

During May, Older Americans Month, learn how to stop telephone and computer scams, keep your home safe and secure, and get help when you need it. Local Senior Advocate Ralph Ercolano, in his role as your Surrogate Son, will offer tips and advice. Registration begins on Tuesday, April 23.
Social Media and the Job Search

Arthur Catalanello, owner of Arthur Catalanello Consulting and Social Media Director for The August Group, returns with an updated presentation on how to use social media as a job search tool. This overview will detail the roles of LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook in today’s job search environment and tips for you to maximize their effectiveness. Attendees are encouraged to have some prior social media experience. Registration opens Thursday, April 11.
Croquet

Just in time for summer, Linda Bowers, a member of the Rochester Croquet Club, will review the basics of croquet including history, equipment, game variations, and the court. Registration begins Friday, April 26.
Book Discussion Group

Penfield Librarian Kim Catalanello hosts the monthly Book Discussion Group meeting. This month's selection is Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel, led by Kathryn Hill. Copies of the book will be available at the circulation desk beginning April 18. No registration required.
Intro to Canva
Monday, May 20, 7:00-8:30 PM
Librarian Stephanie Hranjec will offer a hands-on introductory experience to Canva.com, a graphic design website. The user chooses from thousands of layouts and starts designing based on drag-and- drop principles. You can change color, text fonts, backgrounds, or add frames, shapes, and above all, enjoy your creativity. Canva is perfect for making beautiful posters, invitations, cards, photo collages, bookmarks, website graphics, and more. The tools can be used for both web and print media design and graphics. The class will cover the “free” features of the website. To provide a personalized instruction experience, registration is limited to six participants. Registration opens Monday, May 6.

Teen Tuesdays
Tuesdays when school is in session, 2:30-4:00 PM For grades 9-12. No registration required.
May 7 – Movie: Escape Room, Columbia, 2019, Rated PG-13 – A psychological thriller about six strangers who find themselves in circumstances beyond their control and must use their wits to find the clues or die.
May 14 – Games: Rock Band, Super Smash Bros, board games, etc.
May 28 – Service Learning: Finish up projects started throughout the year. Cat beds for Lollypop Farm, bookmarks for senior centers, etc.
Middle School Game Day
Friday, May 3, 4:00-5:00 PM
Grades 6-8
Meet up with friends to play video and board games and eat free snacks. Registration is suggested but not required.
Middle School Crafternoon
Friday, May 17, 4:00-5:00 PM
For Grades 6-8
Service learning crafts. Cat beds for Lollypop Farm, bookmarks for senior centers, origami cranes for the Hiroshima-Nagasaki Memorial Exhibition at Central Library. Registration is suggested but not required.

Muffins with Mom/Grandma Story Time

For ages 3-7, with Mom and/or Grandma. It’s almost Mother’s Day and we’re going to celebrate with a special story time devoted to moms. We’ll enjoy stories and sing songs in honor of mothers and munch on muffin. Registration begins Thursday, April 25 for Penfield town and school district residents and Thursday, May 2 for all others.
Teddy Bear Picnic
Tuesday, May 14, 11:00-11:45 AM
For ages 3-6, with an adult. Bring your teddy bears and join us for teddy bear stories, songs, and tasty refreshments. Registration begins Tuesday, April 30 for Penfield town and school district residents and Tuesday, May 7 for all others.
Drop-In Preschool Story Time
Wednesdays, May 15 & 29, 10:30-11:00 AM
For children of all ages and their families Families are invited to enjoy stories, songs, and finger plays presented by our children’s librarian, Jennifer Caccavale. Designed for toddler and preschool children. No registration required.
Parent/Child Book Group
Thursday, May 30, 6:45-7:30 pm
For children in grades 3 -5, accompanied by a parent For our next book club evening, please read Ghosts by Raina Telgemeier and come prepared to discuss your favorite parts. Led by our children’s librarian, Jennifer Caccavale, the group will meet monthly. Books will be on hold at the circulation desk to check out after April 25. No registration required.

Tiny Explorers

For ages 12-23 months, with an adult Little ones discover and play as they learn to socialize with other children. No registration required.
“A Universe of Stories” 2019 Children’s Summer Reading Game
Early Bird Registration. Once again we’re offering early registration for those who would like to pick up summer reading game materials in June for children entering kindergarten through sixth grade (child must be present to register).
