Librarian Stephanie Hranjec will offer a hands-on introductory experience to Canva.com, a graphic design website. The user chooses from thousands of layouts and starts designing based on drag-and- drop principles. You can change color, text fonts, backgrounds, or add frames, shapes, and above all, enjoy your creativity. Canva is perfect for making beautiful posters, invitations, cards, photo collages, bookmarks, website graphics, and more. The tools can be used for both web and print media. The class will cover the “free” features of the website. Registration is limited to six participants.

James H. Johnson: Architect

This program is co-sponsored with the Penfield Local History Room and the Penfield Recreation Department. Christopher M. Brandt and Katie Eggers Comeau spent 18 months exploring Rochester architect James H. Johnson’s drawings and slides, interviewing colleagues and family members, and visiting many of his buildings including the Liberty Pole and Mushroom House. Mr. Johnson designed buildings inspired by forms in nature and complex geometry. Registration opens Tuesday, October 15.

Penfield Fire Company Is Coming!

For Ages 3-10, with an adult. In honor of National Fire Safety Month, the Penfield Fire Company is coming to visit the library! We’ll talk about fire safety, watch the firefighters put on their gear, and meet “Sparky”, the robotic Dalmatian. Then we’ll all go outside to tour the fire engine; children will be able to climb aboard and explore its equipment.
