Intro to Canva

Librarian Stephanie Hranjec will offer a hands-on introductory experience to Canva.com, a graphic design website. The user chooses from thousands of layouts and starts designing based on drag-and- drop principles. You can change color, text fonts, backgrounds, or add frames, shapes, and above all, enjoy your creativity. Canva is perfect for making beautiful posters, invitations, cards, photo collages, bookmarks, website graphics, and more. The tools can be used for both web and print media. The class will cover the “free” features of the website. Registration is limited to six participants.
Facebook for the Novice User

Facebook is the largest social media platform in the world with over 2.4 billion users worldwide. Arthur Catalanello, owner of Arthur Catalanello Consulting and Social Media Manager for the August Group, will present this program. He will demonstrate how to create an account, navigate the site, and interact with friends and businesses on Facebook. Bring your questions.

This workshop, offered by Librarian Stephanie Hranjec, will introduce you to the newest features of MS Word, including inserting a “live” YouTube or other video into a document, new horizontal/vertical alignment guides, and other great enhancements. James H. Johnson: Architect
Tuesday, October 29, 7:00-8:30 PM
This program is co-sponsored with the Penfield Local History Room and the Penfield Recreation Department. Christopher M. Brandt and Katie Eggers Comeau spent 18 months exploring Rochester architect James H. Johnson’s drawings and slides, interviewing colleagues and family members, and visiting many of his buildings including the Liberty Pole and Mushroom House. Mr. Johnson designed buildings inspired by forms in nature and complex geometry. Registration opens Tuesday, October 15.

Girls Who Code Club

For Grades 6-9. Girls Who Code is an international non-profit organization working to close the gender gap in technology careers. Led by the Teen Services staff, the PPL GWC Club will work on coding activities and learn about women working in some exciting technology careers.

Making the Most of Your College Tours

For High-Schoolers & Parents. Visiting colleges is an important part of the college choice process. Spend an hour learning how to evaluate a school when you are on campus, developing a list of core questions to ask as well as key elements to identify. This program will be presented by College Admissions Consultant Jodi Rosenshein Atkin. Registration opens Monday, October 14.

Penfield Fire Company Is Coming!
Monday, October 14 (Columbus Day – no school for K-12), 10:30-11:15 AM
For Ages 3-10, with an adult. In honor of National Fire Safety Month, the Penfield Fire Company is coming to visit the library! We’ll talk about fire safety, watch the firefighters put on their gear, and meet “Sparky”, the robotic Dalmatian. Then we’ll all go outside to tour the fire engine; children will be able to climb aboard and explore its equipment.
National Pizza Month Celebration*

For Grades 1-5. October is also National Pizza Month and we’re going to celebrate with a pizza party! We’ll enjoy some delicious pizza (of course) and then you’ll decorate your very own cloth aprons to take home. Just bring your appetite and imagination and we’ll provide all the rest!
Spooky Halloween Snacks with Liz Bauld, the Storybook Cook

Parent-Child Book Group

For Grades 3-5, with a parent. For the October meeting, please read The Willoughbys by Lois Lowry and come prepared to discuss your favorite parts.
