Pop/Rock | Silversun Pickups

Silversun Pickups has done pretty much everything right in its relatively short, and absolutely celebrated, existence. Since it arose from the Silver Lake music scene in 2002, the LA four-piece has been nominated for a Grammy and sold well over 1 million records worldwide. The band has drawn comparisons to heavy-hitting indie outfits of yore, but in reality it is modern alternative-rock at its best. With bits of dreamy pop and shoegaze thrown into the mix, the group's sound is its own. Bad Books (Manchester Orchestra and singer-songwriter Kevin Devine) has turned out to be one of the most intriguing musical collaborations in years. The songs showcase the Andy Hull "more-than-emo" aesthetic, as well as the downtrodden folk-pop of Devine. But the product is the definition of synergy, and infinitely accessible to anyone with ears.

Silversun Pickups play Friday, May 10, 7:30 p.m. at Main Street Armory, 900 E. Main St. $20-$25. rochestermainstreetarmory.com.
