It's impossible to count how many times I've listened to Perfect Pussy's debut studio album, "Say Yes to Love" — granted the entire album clocks in around 23 minutes, but the B-side ends I just keep flipping the record. I can't stop because each pass gives something new from the Syracuse-based noise punk band. Perfect Pussy is at once like a fist to the face, blunt and up-front, but then just tenderly layered, immersive, and interesting. It's easy for a band to hide behind noise and aggression, but the five-piece Perfect Pussy deftly manipulates and handles its feedback, instrumentation, and submersed vocals to really draw the curious in. And once you find out what's really inside, vocalist Meredith Graves is already beating an important line into your head about self-acceptance, and yes, love.
Perfect Pussy performs with Feral Future, Green Dreams, and Utah Jazz on Wednesday, July 16, at Bug Jar, 219 Monroe Avenue. 8 p.m. $10-$14. Bugjar.com; prrfectpussy.bandcamp.com.
