  • David Long is the new director of RIT's MAGIC Center.

He'll replace Andy Phelps, MAGIC's founding director and professor in the College of Art and Design, who is taking a leave of absence for a year.

RIT's MAGIC Center is a laboratory and a production studio that brings together digital media, such as film, animation, and game design to create media products like video games that are ready to market. The research and digital products are the result of a collaboration of the university's STEM fields and the arts and humanities faculty and students.

Long has worked with Hollywood filmmakers and won an Oscar in 2008 for technological contributions at Eastman Kodak. And he contributed to the design of MAGIC Spell Studios. RIT will open a new building for the Studios in the fall.
