Nationwide, World War II and the following two decades were particularly challenging to America’s healthcare system, including the nursing profession. Faced with labor force shortages, increased birth rates, rising hospital census, and rapidly the expanding biomedical sciences nurses, physicians, and hospital administrators still had to find new ways to provide quality care. Despite these challenges, Rochester’s nurses, like their colleagues across the nation, were instrumental in advancing the care of burn patients, premature infants, and patients suffering from heart disease and prior before would never have survived.
