ROCK | Doyle

Known widely for his days with horror punk pioneers The Misfits, guitarist Doyle — full stage name Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein — could very well be the most violent guitar player of all time. He gets his heavy, crunchy, kick-in-your-face tone by playing his handmade guitar, "Annihilator," through a bass amp, and down stroking like he is attempting to murder his strings. The hulking guitarist, along with former Misfits drummer Dr. C.H.U.D., vocalist Alex Story, and bassist Left Hand Graham, put out the album "Abominator" last year, which puts horror punk through a heavy metal grinder. The result is a rifftastic, dark-themed joyride, with tunes like "Hope Hell is Warm" and "Dreamingdeadgirls," whose lyrics make the Necronomicon seem amateur.

Doyle plays the Montage Music Hall, 50 Chestnut Street, on Friday, August 15. 8 p.m. $15-$50. Themontagemusichall.com; officialdoyle.com.
