ROCK | Kid Rock

Among all the concerts I've ever attended, it was a Kid Rock show that inspired me to play a bit of hooky by catching the Early Mornin' Stoned Pimp's next couple of gigs. What aroused my wayward spirit was crushing tunes and the ridiculousness of Kid Rock and Twisted Brown Trucker, a half-band, half-circus spectacle from Detroit that was my most super-awesome concert experience ever. Kid Rock is blessed with a knack for self-promotion and a penchant for gimmicks, despite ditching those pole-dancers from back in the day. You betcha that there is still a place for a large American flag or a giant middle finger to be unfurled sometime during a number. But Kid Rock has mostly morphed into grown-up rock. He still has the gift, too. With Kool & The Gang and Uncle Kracker.

Kid Rock performs Friday, July 5, 6:45 p.m. at Darien Lake Performing Arts Center, Darien Center. $29.
