SOUL | Allen Stone

He dresses kinda goofy, and he's been an "American Idol" contestant, so I was halfway ready to write him off. Then Allen Stone opened his mouth and the soul poured out. I opened my mouth and "holy shit" came out. This man's voice is incredible — no, I mean it, incredible. Born in 1987 outside Spokane, Washington, Stone got his start — you guessed it — singing in his father's church. He discovered soul in his teens and followed it down a more secular path that can be heard today. Stone will make you believe.

Allen Stone plays Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness, Zac Clark, and Bob Oxblood on Tuesday, June 5, at Anthology, 336 East Avenue. 6:30 p.m. $33-$36.50. anthologylive.com; allenstone.com.
