SOUL | John Ellison

Rochester's Soul Brothers Five were already stompin' soul sensations in the mid-60's when John Ellison arrived, making them Soul Brothers Six. Ellison became the lead singer and principal songwriter for the group, and in 1967, he penned the smash hit "Some Kind of Wonderful." Since then, over 50 artists have recorded the song, and according to BMI, it's the third most played song in the world. At 77, Ellison keeps busy touring, playing festivals around the world and hawking hot sauce.

John Ellison, with guest Steve Grills and the Roadmasters, will play as part of the Little Concert Series on Friday, October 19, 8 p.m. at The Wilder Room, 120 East Avenue. $30-$32. 258-0400. thelittle.org.
