Susan Deer Cloud, a mixed lineage mountain Indian (mainly Mohawk/Blackfoot) from the Catskills, is the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Literature Fellowship, two New York State Foundation for the Arts Poetry Fellowships and a Chenango County Council for the Arts Individual Artist Grant. The author most recently of "Braiding Starlight," "Car Stealer" and "The Last Ceremony," Deer Cloud's work has also been published in numerous literary journals and anthologies. As part of her dedication to getting First Nations voices heard, Deer Cloud serves as editor of the ongoing Native anthology "I Was Indian (Before Being Indian Was Cool)" and the "Re-Matriation Chapbook Series of Indigenous Poetry." The event is co-sponsored by the Memorial Art Gallery and Writers & Books.
