The Cry of the Renegade: The Politics and Poetry of Subversion in Santiago, Chile

When: Tue., April 12, 7:30-9 p.m. 2016
Presented by Raymond Craib. Over the course of three months in 1920 Chilean authorities hassled, persecuted, prosecuted, framed, arrested, and expelled men and women they did not want in the country. Who were these people and why were they jailed, expelled, or in the case of the young poet Jose Domingo Gomez Rojas, killed? This talk looks closely at the lives and experiences of five men subjected to state repression. The talk will examine topics still very much relevant today: the history of anarchism, university students as political subjects, the meaning of police work.
