The week ahead: Warren's 'State of the City,' a Daniel Pipes lecture, a charter school hearing 

Mayor Lovely Warren will deliver the last State of the City address of her current term at 7 o’clock tonight. The venue: the downtown tech company CGI Communications, 130 East Main Street. Her talk will be streamed live on the city’s website.

The Leon Katzen Memorial Lecture Series will host a talk by controversial historian Daniel Pipes on Tuesday, April 25. Pipes is president of the Middle East Forum and is publisher of the Middle East Quarterly. His talk, on the topic “The Israel Paradox,” will be at Congregation Beth Sholom, 1161 Monroe Avenue, at 7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The Rochester school board will hold a public hearing concerning the Rochester River Charter School on Thursday, April 27. The State Education Department requires that school boards provide an opportunity for public input on charter school applications in their districts. Rochester River wants to open in September 2018, starting with grades K-2, and growing to K-6 in five years. The meeting will be held at the district’s central office, at 131 West Broad Street, at 5:30 p.m.
