THEATER | "Beehive"

"Beehive," a high-octane, yet light-hearted musical from playwright Larry Gallagher brings to life the most prominent female voices of the flower child generation. With a range of 1960's icons from Janis Joplin to Aretha Franklin, this jukebox musical catches the cultural shift captured so profoundly in the music of the era. "Beehive" prominently features everything from the early 60's carefree pop tunes, such as Shirley Ellis's "The Name Game," to the iconic unrest that blossomed in the decade, captured in ballads like Joplin's "Me and Bobby McGee" and Lesley Gore's "You Don't Own Me." "Beehive" is directed by Blackfriars' new artistic and managing director Danny Hoskins.

"Beehive" runs Friday, July 10, through Sunday, July 19, with show times at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday; 2 p.m. on Sunday; and 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at Blackfriars Theatre (795 East Main Street). Pre-sale tickets for "Beehive" are $29.95. For more information, visit bftix.org.
