What's new in local and national theater? Geva has several answers to that question in its annual Festival of New Theatre, beginning Wednesday night and running through October 23. Highlights include the reading of a new play about two great Rochesterians, Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony, and the opportunity to discuss the plays with their authors after each performance. All readings begin at 7 p.m. at Geva's Fielding Stage, unless otherwise noted.
Wednesday, October 12, and Saturday, October 15: "The Agitators: The Story of Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglass" by Mat Smart. Directed by Valerie Curtis-Newton.
Friday, October 14: "Fiedler's Choice" by David Andreatta. Directed by Jean Gordon Ryon.
Wednesday, October 19: "Your Wings Have Eyes" by Micheline Auger. Directed by Francis Kuhn.
Thursday, October 20: "With" by Carter W. Lewis. Directed by Skip Greer
Saturday, October 22, 7 p.m., and Sunday, October 23, 3 p.m.: Young Writers Showcase — six plays by young writers ages 13 to 18.
The Festival of New Theatre will take place Wednesday, October 12, through Sunday, October 23, at Geva Theatre Center, 75 Woodbury Boulevard. Admission is free, but reservations are required. 232-4382; gevatheatre.org.
