THEATER | 'Harriet Tubman: With All the Odds Against Her'

America is entrenched in a battle to replace legacies, for better or worse. Trump & co. are busy trying to obscure or undo everything achieved before his rise to power. Monuments to Confederate leaders are finally being taken down, amid dubious cries that removing them is a violation of history. Abolitionist and humanitarian Harriet Tubman was selected to replace slave owner Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill — still waiting for that to manifest though.

Tubman's story is the subject of "With All the Odds Against Her," on Tuesday, September 19, in a program presented by Perinton Historical Society at Fairport Historical Museum (18 Perrin Street). Magelene Moore-Holley will portray Tubman, who was born into slavery and suffered greatly at the hands of various masters before freeing herself, and then spent years leading dozens of fugitive slaves to freedom. Tubman, during the Civil War, also served in the Union army as a nurse, a cook, and a spy, and led expeditions that freed hundreds more people.

The program takes place at 7 p.m., and is free and open to the public. For more info call 223-3989 or visit
