THEATER/KIDS | 'The Wonderful World of Oz'

The performing arts department at Rochester Institute of Technology's National Technical Institute for the Deaf this week will produce "The Wonderful World of Oz," accessible to deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing audiences. But the show won't simply have ASL interpreters off to the side translating the story; the actors themselves will perform in both ASL and spoken English. Several NTID alumni are participating in the production and incorporated video segments, and organizers promise surprises for the audience.

"The Wonderful World of Oz" will be onstage Thursday, April 19, through Sunday, April 22, and again Friday and Saturday, April 27 and 28, at the Robert F. Panara Theatre on the RIT/NTID campus, 52 Lomb Memorial Drive. Thursday, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12 general; $10 for alumni, faculty, staff, and kids 12 and older; $5 for students, seniors, and kids under age 12. Encore performances will be held June 28 through July 1. 475-4121; RITtickets.com.
