THEATER | 'The Bridges of Madison County, the Musical'

In Robert James Waller's "The Bridges of Madison County," Italian war bride Francesca stays at home while her family attends the Iowa State Fair, and by chance a handsome National Geographic photographer stops at her farm seeking directions. The story has enjoyed immortality through perpetual reinvention — the 1992 best-selling novel was adapted for screen, resulting in the 1995 hit film starring Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood. And this month, "The Bridges of Madison County, the Musical," with its Tony Award-winning score by Jason Robert Brown, makes its Rochester-area debut at the JCC's CenterStage Theatre. Penfield native Mark Bradley Miller, an actor and photographer now based in New York City, returns to Rochester to star in the production alongside local performer Kristin Mellema.

"The Bridges of Madison County, the Musical" continues through Sunday, May 20, at the JCC's CenterStage Theatre, 1200 Elmwood Avenue. Thursdays, May 10 and 17, at 7 p.m.; Saturdays, May 12 and 19, at 8 p.m. (also 2 p.m. on May 19); and Sundays, May 13 and 20, at 2 p.m. $29 reserved seats; $27 for JCC members; $20 for students. 461-2000;
