THEATER | 'The Royal Family"

Theater lovers in need of an escape from reality would do well to consider "The Royal Family" — a play about actors caught in their own bubbles — running now through February 18 at Lyric Theatre. Presented by Screen Plays, the comedy follows the Cavendishes — a notable family of thespians based on the real-life Barrymore family — and it's matriarch Fanny as they try to navigate the threatened retirement of daughter Julie. Directed by Jean Gordon Ryon, "The Royal Family" is a lighthearted satire that recalls the bygone 20's.

Lyric Theatre's Cabaret Hall Theater, 440 East Avenue. Fridays February 9 and 16, and Saturday, February 17, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, February 10, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and Sundays, February 11 and 18, at 2 p.m. $15-$23.50. 256-0444.
