THEATER | "Twisted Tales of Terror"

If you're fond of scary stories, but you could do with some lightheartedness these days, check out Jeanine Harvey's madcap play, "Twisted Tales of Terror," which will be performed this week under the direction of Dianne Schaumberg at Stages (third floor at the Auditorium Center, 875 East Main Street).

Set in a graveyard, the story incorporates many classic creepster tales — including "Dracula," "Frankenstein," "The Three Werewolves," "Jekyll and Hyde," "The Tragic Tale of the Mummy," and "The Three Witches" — as narrated by Claudia, the Dark Tales Guardian, to her husband, Igor. As she tells the tales, the characters come to life, but with a twist. Swapping terror for comedy, the plotlines take unexpected turns that include a tidy, happy ending.

"Twisted Tale of Terror" will be staged Friday, March 17, through Sunday, March 19. Evening performances take place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and matinees take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $10. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 935-7173 or visit
