Re: “The risks we face in the next race for mayor

Peter Maurer Careful or you'll cut yourself on that razor. Just like Barnhart cut herself off from reality by proposing a 50% cut in property taxes.

As to who's a professional office chaser, I'd say its a matter of timing and offices being sought. Slaughter won on her THIRD try for county legislature over a four year period. Barnhart on the other hand first ran for the state assembly, lost, and then in a matter of a few months did a 180 and is now running for city mayor. Looks like she's all over any office that opens up.

Re: “The risks we face in the next race for mayor

Occam's Razor teaches us that the simpler of two or more hypotheses is likely to be the most correct.

Applying O'sR to the Rochester mayoral contest would seem to indicate that Barnhart's campaign is predicated on nothing more subtle then the cynical assumption that the African-American vote will be split in the primary, leaving her the victor based on her name recognition and "outsider" (i.e. a total lack of governmental experience) status. Her nearly-successful run for the assembly nomination against incumbent Bronson no doubt helped to add fuel to Barnhart's new career as a professional office-chaser.

Re: “Feedback 2/8

Eric Maloney - As I previously posted, "Far less well-known than it should be outside of its adherents, Christian Identity is a profoundly racist and theocratic form of faith that developed in Far Right rural communities in the late 1970s." Clearly you are one of those uninformed about the tenets of CI, including their almost-rabid hatred of the federal government. Thus there's nothing inappropriate about contending that McVeigh's political views were influenced, as are the political views of Muslim terrorists, by the teachings of his particular brand of religion. One does not need to yell, "Allahu Akbar" while committing an atrocity to be a religious terrorist.

Re: “Feedback 2/8

DAVID HENNELLY The problem with Trump and his supporters is that they havent the historical knowledge to intelligently evaluate domestic versus imported terrorism, or rather terrorist acts performed within the US by Muslims versus such acts committed by Christians.

They base their case for banning Muslims from the US in large part on the Sept. 11 attacks in which 2,977 victims died (2,605 being American citizens) while being oblivious to the 3,446 African-Americans lynched by the avowed Christians of the Ku Klux Klan between 1886 and 1968 (according to the Tuskegee University). Apparently they opt to create a statute of limitations for terrorist acts so that only those since the day before Sept. 11 count.

They blame the influence of Islam for the actions of those claiming to be that religions adherents, but attempt to argue away the fact that Timothy McVeigh was deeply influenced by the Christian Identity movement prior to his bombing the Murrah Federal Office Building in 1995, killing 168. Far less well-known than it should be outside of its adherents, Christian Identity is a profoundly racist and theocratic form of faith that developed in Far Right rural communities in the late 1970s.

As to domestic terrorists such as Dylann Roof (killed 9 in a Charleston Church), and Robert Lewis Dear (killed 3 in a shoot out at a Planned Parenthood office in Colorado Springs, proclaiming himself to be "a warrior for the babies"), those fixating on the dangers of Islamic terrorism pass by these two in embarrassed silence or try to excuse matters by claiming that any Christian who commits a terrorist act cant be a "real Christian", can he?
