The colorful three-tiered, floor-length skirts represent the different groups who have lived on the Caribbean island throughout its history -- the native Taino-Arawak tribes, the Spanish conquistadors and the Africans. The blending of the three cultures is what makes Puerto Ricans today a "rainbow people."
