Presented by Frank Sadowski. The earliest known postcard is postmarked December 1848 although common use of postcards did not occur until much later. Therefore, the earliest postcards with images of the Erie Canal feature the enlarged Canal of 1836 through 1905, which stretched from Buffalo to Albany.
