Inspired by the feed sack dress trend of the early 20th century, many smaller fashion designers, artists, and at-home sewers are using common non-fabric materials – like shopping bags - to create fun and functional garments. On the other end of the spectrum, avant-garde couturiers like Viktor & Rolf and Moschino are developing entire collections based around beautifully made clothes that only look like recycled materials like plastic bags, fast food packaging, and even…feed sacks. This talk will discuss these aspects of high and low fashion, as well as the role of Camp in recycled and trompe l’oeil clothing.
