Urban Action 6/14 

This week's calls to action include the following events and activities. (All are free and open to the public, unless otherwise noted.)

Brighton goes green will hold a Brighton Eco-Fair in conjunction with the Brighton Farmer's Market on Sunday, June 18. Attendees can learn about recycling, water conservation, and more from nonprofits, vendors, and student projects. The event will be held on the Brighton High School's front lawn on 1150 Winton Road South, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Rethinking social labels

The MK Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence will hold "Beyond Labels: Resourcing Yourself with the Work that Reconnects," a workshop that calls for moving beyond partisan labels, on Saturday, June 17. The workshop, which will be led by Kit Miller, the Institute's director, will also include a potluck lunch, and participants are encouraged to take dishes and utensils. The workshop will be held at Asbury First United Methodist Church, 1050 East Avenue, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Register online at Donations welcomed.

Gender's influence on religion

The Hickey Center at Nazareth College will host a three-day conference on "Sacred Texts and Human Contexts: Women and Gender." The conference will be held from Sunday, July 30, through Tuesday, August 1. More than 50 scholars will present their research, and Rabbi Rachel Sabath Beit-Halachmi, director of admissions at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, is one of the keynote speakers. The conference is open to 87 participants, so early registration is recommended. Resisting Trump

The Greater Coalition for Immigration Justice will present "Introduction to Immigrant Rights Action in Rochester" on Tuesday, June 20. Rochester activists will talk about what they are doing to confront the Trump administration's stance on immigration. The event will be held at the First Unitarian Church, 220 Winton Road South, at 7 p.m.
