A part of the Polish Film Festival. A village in Volhynia, former south-east Poland, populated by Ukrainians, Poles and Jews. 1939. Zosia is in love with a Ukrainian boy, but her father decides to marry her off to a Pole. The life of the village is altered by the Soviet occupation and by the German attack on the USSR. The persecution of Jews begins. Nationalist sentiment growths within Ukrainians. The Ukrainian Insurgent Army attacks Polish settlements. Amongst this sea of hatred Zosia’s trying to save her children.
