In mid-nineteenth century Rochester, economic growth and development spurred professional men to seek personal progress and self-cultivation through literary fraternities and clubs. Lewis Henry Morgan, the father of cultural anthropology, was a prominent member of the “pundit club” (as it was humorously known) along with other Rochesterians. You will meet many of these club members in the tour and learn about their interesting intellectual legacy.
