Week ahead: Events for the week of Monday, September 19

The League of Women Voters and the National Council of Jewish Women will sponsor “The Upcoming Elections,” a public forum at 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 22. The forum will feature guest speaker Timothy Kneeland, chair and professor of history at Nazareth College, who will examine the media focus on the celebrity personalities of the two main presidential candidates and what that means for the issues that matter. A Q&A will follow Kneeland’s talk. The event will be held at Nazareth College’s Arts Center. BY TIM LOUIS MACALUSO

The Nature Conservancy of Central and Western New York will open a new trail to better link Hemlock and Canadice lakes on Saturday morning.

The new trail builds on the Rob’s Trail Preserve and an existing trail between the two lakes, which are the source of Rochester’s drinking water. The existing trail takes hikers along a ridge between the two lakes and provides access to Canadice Lake after a steep, strenuous hike. The new trail will take users to the Hemlock shoreline.

The trail’s grand opening will happen during a 9:30 a.m. Saturday press conference at the intersection of South Old Bald Hill Road and Rt-15A in Springwater. BY JEREMY MOULE
