FOOD FOR FINES: Friday, November 16th through Saturday, December 15th, Gates Public Library will forgive $1 in fines for every item received, up to $5. Items accepted include non-perishable food, unopened & unexpired toiletries, soaps, & paper products, gently used or new clothing & household linens. Sorry, charges for lost items and collection services cannot be forgiven.

Ideas and Authors: Monday, December 3, from 7 – 8:30 pm. Book discussion group for adults, on the first Monday of each month. This month we will discuss The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd. Books are available at the Circulation Desk one month in advance. No registration.

Time For Tots: Wednesday, December 5, 10:15AM. Ages 1 through 5 with a caregiver. Forty minutes of free play with toys, followed by a short story time. No registration.

Autism Panel Discussion: Putting the Pieces Together: Wednesday, December 5, 6:30 – 8:30PM. Join Autism Ambassador, Dalton Letta, when he hosts a panel of individuals with autism, their families, industry providers, and more for a frank discussion on what it is like to live with autism. Guest moderator Senator Joe Robach. Registration required.

Sit, Knit & Stitch: Thursday, December 6, 6:30 – 8:30 PM. Bring your own project and enjoy the company of others who enjoy needlecraft like knitting, stitching and crocheting. Beginners to experts are welcome. Bring a snack and beverage if you wish. No registration.

Family Code Night: Thursday, December 6, 7:00 – 8:00PM. Kids in grades 6-12 and their parents will complete a Wonder Woman coding project at their own pace and learn core concepts in coding. No coding experience needed, laptops available if needed. Register as a family or team.

Technology for Seniors: Each month we tackle a new topic related to technology, using tablets or laptops. If you own an electronic device, please bring it with you, otherwise you may borrow one from the library during the class. Registration is required and limited to 3 people. Register online or by calling the library at 247-6446.

Learn to Crochet: Saturday, December 8 from 10:30 – 11:30AM. Adults will learn simple stitching techniques and get you started on crocheting a project. If you need help with something you've already started feel free to bring it with you. Please register.

Winter Holiday Mocktails: Monday, December 10, 7:00 – 8:00PM. Stop in to learn how to make four non-alcoholic drinks that are perfect for the holidays. The recipes are simple, have all of the fun flavors we enjoy during this season, and are guaranteed to be a hit at your winter holiday gatherings. No registration required.

Junior Friends: Tuesday, December 11, 4:00 – 5:00PM. The Junior Friends are library volunteers ages 9 - 16 who meet year-round and help the library with book sales, programs, and decorations, among other fun things. We also get involved with community service activities.

Library Board Meeting: Wednesday, December 12, from 6:00 – 7:00PM. Library Board meetings are open to the public.

Preschool Dance Party: Friday, December 14, 10:00 to 10:30AM. For ages 1-5 with a caregiver. No registration.

House Plants For Your Home: Saturday, December 15, 10:00 – 11:00AM. Karen Klingenberger, life-long gardener and retired Cornell Cooperative Extension Horticulture educator, will discuss conditions for growing tropical plants in your home as well as offering tips for easy propagation to increase and share your plants.

Handmade Holiday Gifts Workshop: Saturday, December 15, 2:00 – 4:00PM. We’ll provide the supplies and directions for making several DIY gifts. We’ll even have a gift wrapping station to wrap your finished product. Hot cocoa, cookies, and holiday music will help get us in the holiday mood. Program is designed for teens and adults, but children may participate with adult supervision. No registration required. While supplies last.
