Virgil's tragic love story of Dido and Aeneas inspired many baroque artists, writers, and composers. Of the many musical settings of this tale, we will perform two dramatic cantatas for soprano and strings by Montéclair and Pasquini, showcasing the different national styles of the era. Also on the program will be instrumental music by their contemporaries in Rome and Paris, including Arcangelo Corelli, Francesco Geminiani, François Couperin, and Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre.
