Mount Hope Cemetery is a collection of hills and glens left behind by the last ice sheets that once covered the area. But there is more to the geological make-up of the Cemetery than just holes and hills: the stone used to make the markers and monuments tell their own tale about New York State going back more than 400 million years. Your tour guide is Dr. Rory Cottrell. She is a research scientist and geologist at the University of Rochester. Her research focuses on the changing magnetic field of Earth through time, but her passion is geologic history.
